Counsellor - Fast Track Route

Couple Counselling module:

Level 2, 20 credits, 150 study hours

This will be open to counsellors who already have a Counselling Diploma and wish to train as relationship counsellors to work within Scottish Marriage Care as a volunteer.

Counsellors would have to undertake a selection process, complete the academic and assessment criteria of the module.

The module content covers:

  • Examination of the theory and skills required to use The Skilled Helper approach to counselling, and particularly how it can be used with couples.
  • Examining theories of human development in relation to adult relationships.
  • Understanding the nature of triangular relationships and acquiring the necessary knowledge and techniques to work with two people who may not have a common agenda.
  • Identifying developmental issues, belief systems and collusive relationships
