SCOTTISH MARRIAGE CARE TO BEGIN
GROUNDBREAKING PARENTING PROJECT
Scottish Marriage Care has just been awarded
funding for a groundbreaking new parenting project
that links parenting with relationship skills. The
REACT Young Parents Project will provide a
parenting and relationship support service to
young parents, or those at risk of becoming
parents, in Greater Easterhouse. Aimed at under
25's, the project will offer sessions to raise
self-esteem and develop communication skills.
There will also be sessions on relationships, team
building, and practical issues such as finance.
Funded by the Camelot Foundation, this new
project will make a huge difference to the lives
of young parents. Scottish Marriage Care's
Research & Development Officer, Jo Field,
said: "there is strong evidence that
relationships between adults are important during
the parenting process. "Factors such as
communication and self-esteem are vital when
building relationships. "Our programme will
help young parents to make positive decisions in
their relationships and establish good
relationships with partners, family members and
friends. "This will have a positive impact on
their children's lives as well as their own."
The project is due to start in November of this
year and Field continued: "We are delighted
that we can apply our specialist knowledge to help
young parents. "We already provide a youth
work service in Easterhouse and it's great to be
able to develop this further. "We are very
grateful to The Camelot Foundation for affording
us the opportunity."
