Research highlights marriage black spots
New research published by family support
charity Scottish Marriage Care has highlighted
the main reasons behind marriage trouble. It
identifies communication issues as the most
common reason to attend relationship
counselling.
Client profiling shows 68.3% of clients name
communication issues as their main reason for
coming to counselling. Sexual issues are second
with 26.7%. Infidelity and financial issues are
the next most common reasons for using the
service.
Relationship difficulties can affect areas of
life such as health and employment. Research shows
marital distress is directly linked with work
productivity. The work loss associated with
marital problems costs UK employers millions each
year.
Scottish Marriage Care offers support by
counselling couples with relationship
difficulties. Chief Executive Mary Toner said:
"Counselling can help couples to explore the
issues in their relationship so that they are able
to come to a reflective decision about how to work
through these." This has a positive impact on
all areas of a person's life." Scottish
Marriage Care also provides support for those
couples or individuals whose marriage or
relationship has broken down.
