3 March 2005SCOTTISH MARRIAGE CARE HOST
JOINT SEMINAR
This afternoon Scottish Marriage Care will
host a joint seminar with Children 1st and
Parenting Across Scotland. The seminar is called:
'Supporting the Family: Research Informing
Practice'. It aims to raise awareness of the link
between the adult relationship and children's
development. The seminar also aims to increase
partnership working amongst organisations involved
with parents, adults or children.
Scottish Marriage Care will present details of
groundbreaking new research showing that it is not
only what parents do with a child that's
important, but also how the two adults relate to
each other. This research has informed Scottish
Marriage Care's recent work and they have been
awarded funding to teach relationship skills to
young parents in Easterhouse on the basis of this
research.
Relationship skills are often missing from
parenting programmes. In the future Scottish
Marriage Care aims to bridge the gap in parenting
programmes by delivering a relationships input.
They will also offer relationships training to
organisations already working with parents.
Scottish Marriage Care's Chief Executive, Mary
Toner, said: "We are delighted to be working
in partnership with Children 1st and PAS.
"This is the first time we have had the
opportunity to become involved in an event such as
this and we hope it will be a great success."
